This week, Mayor Teresa Harding provided updates on key developments within Ipswich City Council, including the welcoming of new Division 4 Councillor David Martin, major infrastructure upgrades, and the recent community celebrations. Following the state election, Council remains focused on local projects and collaboration with state MPs.
One major announcement involved realignment plans for Cribb Park’s dog off-leash area in North Ipswich. This update follows community feedback requesting more shaded seating within the fenced area, enhancing the park’s appeal for both pets and their owners.
Mayor Harding also highlighted the large-scale Springfield Parkway upgrades, which now include massive 3.6-meter culverts designed to prevent road flooding during heavy rainfall. Part of the $60 million Springfield Greenbank Arterial Duplication Project, these culverts aim to future-proof the arterial road in one of Ipswich’s fastest-growing regions. “It’s essential to have this drainage in place with storm season approaching,” said Harding.
In the arts, the Ipswich Art Awards, which have seen over 400 submissions, kick off with an exclusive opening event this Friday. The popular event, eagerly supported by locals and arts groups such as Arts Connect, will showcase diverse talent from the Ipswich region, with tickets already sold out.
Finally, Harding joined the local community at the Goodna Jacaranda Festival, which featured over 30 food stalls, performances, and activities. She enjoyed supporting neighbourhood watch groups and local artists, and encouraged residents to continue engaging with upcoming events across Ipswich.
