Ipswich is set to sparkle this holiday season as the city’s annual Christmas in Ipswich program promises an array of events, light displays, and holiday cheer for the whole community. The festivities will kick off on November 28 with the official lighting of the City Christmas Tree in d’Arcy Doyle Place, accompanied by carols from Journey Church and the festive Santa and Sirens parade in Tulmur Place.

Mayor Teresa Harding highlighted the city’s preparations to make this a memorable season for residents. “From Friday 13 December, the St Nicholas Precinct will transform into a magical lighting display filled with colour, market stalls, and festive foods,” she said. Residents can also enjoy the popular Christmas Lights Competition and guided Christmas Lights Tours, showcasing Ipswich’s brightest holiday displays.

The festive fun continues with the Low Sensory Night on December 16, a quieter experience at the St Nicholas Precinct for families seeking a more sensory-friendly environment. Councillor Pye Augustine, Chair of the Economic and Cultural Development Committee, said, “The Christmas program offers everything from the Marburg Community Carols to the Ulysses Club Toy Run and a Dive-in Movie at Orion Lagoon, capturing the essence of a community Christmas.”

The Christmas Lights Tours will take place on December 20 and 21, guiding residents to some of the most impressive holiday light displays across Ipswich. For the city’s youngest residents, Letters to Santa can be submitted at Ipswich Libraries and UB’s Milk Bar from November 19 through December 11.

With markets, late-night shopping, and carolling events scheduled throughout November and December, Ipswich residents have plenty of opportunities to embrace the holiday spirit and support local businesses. The full program and details on the Christmas Lights Competition, which offers over $8,000 in prizes, are available at Christmasinipswich.com.au.
