Ipswich Mini Crafters are currently hosting an exhibition at the Art Time Gallery, showcasing intricate miniature creations from the group. The exhibition, which features a wide range of small-scale models and dioramas, highlights the extraordinary craftsmanship of the artists, offering the public a unique glimpse into the world of miniatures.
Sally from Ipswich Mini Crafters, who has been part of the group for over 27 years, shared her excitement about the exhibition. “The exhibition includes everything from dollhouses and miniature rooms to detailed outdoor scenes, and even replicas of historical buildings,” she explained. “It’s not the crafters that are mini; it’s the works themselves!”
The Ipswich Mini Crafters group, established in 1990, has grown significantly over the years. Initially founded by Alan Lindop, a woodworker passionate about miniature wagons and coaches, the group now focuses on a wide array of miniature projects. Their recent move to the old courthouse has provided them with the perfect venue, complete with storage, work areas, and wet spaces for painting and crafting.
Sally mentioned that the group’s work has been featured in prominent displays, including an extended exhibition of historical buildings at the Queensland Railway Workshops Museum. “We’re currently looking for a permanent home for some of our larger pieces, like the Commonwealth Hotel model,” she added.
The exhibition at Art Time Gallery is free to the public and offers visitors a chance to explore the intricate world of miniatures. Visitors interested in joining the Ipswich Mini Crafters can pick up brochures at the gallery or attend one of the group’s meetings held every Wednesday night at the old courthouse.
The exhibition runs throughout the week, and more details can be found on the Ipswich Mini Crafters website and Facebook page.
