Ipswich-based musician Steve Mondale is set to launch his debut single, Long Haul Flights, this Saturday night at Studio 188. The track, now available on all streaming platforms, tells a relatable story of dreams, struggles, and the cost of chasing big goals.

Written before Mondale traveled to Los Angeles to study at the Los Angeles College of Music, the song captures the feeling of saving for something big—whether it’s a life-changing opportunity or even a Vegas wedding with Elvis officiating.

“It’s about trying to scrape money together to make things happen,” said Mondale. “But then life gets in the way—cars break down, jobs get lost, and suddenly you’re back at square one.”

Drawing inspiration from Americana and Australian suburban life, Mondale’s music reflects a working-class perspective, much like Paul Kelly’s storytelling style.

“I love country music, but I grew up in Ipswich, Werribee, and Queanbeyan—the ‘Ipswiches of Australia’—so my music reflects that suburban, working-class experience.”

Mondale has been involved in music since high school, with Paul Kelly’s sister as his first music teacher. After years of playing and refining his craft, this debut release marks a major milestone in his career.

Joining him on stage for the launch will be The Coonans and Remy, promising a night of exceptional live music.

The event kicks off at 7:30 PM on March 9 at Studio 188, Ipswich’s premier live music venue. Tickets are available via stevemondale.com.au or the Ipswich Civic Centre website.

For fans of authentic, heartfelt storytelling through music, this is a gig not to be missed!
