Ipswich, Saturday night – The vibrant streets of Ipswich were pulsating with energy as locals and visitors alike flocked to the much-anticipated “Lapz” event. However, amidst the lively atmosphere, disturbing reports of reckless driving and antisocial behavior have cast a shadow over the otherwise festive occasion.

Reports indicate that several incidents occurred throughout the evening, with drivers exhibiting dangerous behavior that endangered both themselves and others. Witnesses recounted scenes of chaos, with multiple drivers engaging in disruptive activities such as revving engines, performing burnouts, and creating excessive noise under the Coles Ipswich carpark.

One eyewitness described a P-plater in a Falcon igniting the streets near the cinemas with reckless driving maneuvers, while another driver in a Subaru continuously revved their engine, creating a cacophony of noise. Additionally, a white commy ute’s backfiring reportedly caused distress among attendees, prompting some to leave the event prematurely.

Perhaps the most alarming incident involved a driver in a statesman who brazenly smoked the Coles carpark with two burnouts, permeating the area with the pungent smell of burnt rubber. Concerns were raised about the safety of classic car owners amidst such unruly behavior.

In response to the concerning events, suggestions were made to implement stricter measures for future events, including the deployment of mobile VMS boards displaying messages to deter reckless driving and the consideration of additional police presence during the festivities.

Organizers and Facebook group administrators expressed their dismay at the behavior exhibited, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for such actions. They underscored the need for collective responsibility, stating, “If you’re doing burnouts or skids under Coles, you’re not welcome back.”

Looking ahead, event organizers are hopeful for a smoother experience during the next Ipswich Lapz event scheduled for July 27th, 2024. However, they emphasize the importance of addressing the issues raised to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees.
