Ipswich’s Division 2 Councillor, Paul Tully, provided exciting updates for the community, focusing on new sports infrastructure and the highly anticipated Goodna Jacaranda Festival. As the longest-serving councillor in Australia, Tully continues to contribute to the area’s growth and development.
One major highlight is the construction of a new $3 million clubhouse at the Silver Jubilee Sports Facility in Spring Mountain. The project, primarily funded through the federal government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, is set to be completed by March 2024. “This is a huge development for our growing area,” said Tully. The sports complex will feature facilities for rugby, AFL, basketball, and netball, providing much-needed resources for the expanding community.
In addition to this, the Goodna Jacaranda Festival, which will run from October 25-27, is fast approaching. Known for its rich history and community spirit, the festival will feature stalls, rides, fireworks, and performances. “The Jacaranda trees are looking amazing this year,” Tully remarked. “Tourists, especially from Japan, come specifically to see them.”
The festival, supported by Ipswich City Council with $5,000 in funding and over $9,000 in in-kind contributions, is expected to attract locals and visitors alike. Tully encouraged everyone to attend, highlighting the festival’s importance in celebrating the area’s natural beauty and community talent.
Tully also reminded residents to prepare for storm season by utilizing Ipswich City Council’s disaster dashboard. “We’ve installed flood cameras at key points, including Colleges Crossing and Goodna, to keep everyone informed,” he said.
With new infrastructure developments and vibrant community events like the Goodna Jacaranda Festival, Ipswich is proving to be a thriving hub for both residents and visitors.
