A unique initiative called the Moneyless Market is set to take place at the Smart Start Early Learning Center in Redbank Plains on October 5, aiming to support local families in need. The concept, championed by Ipswich Councillor Pye Augustine, encourages residents to donate gently used items, which will be available for free to those who need them.

Councillor Augustine, speaking on West Bremer Radio’s Brekkie Club, explained the idea behind the market. “It’s simple,” she said. “People donate clothes, books, household items, and other essentials they no longer need, and families who are struggling can come down and take what they need – without spending a cent.” The initiative is designed to help reduce waste, as its motto states: reduce, reuse before we recycle.
Donations will be accepted at the Smart Start Early Learning Center, located at the corner of Pallas and School Roads in Redbank Plains, from September 30 to October 4. The items should be in good condition, ensuring they can be immediately reused by others in the community.
On the day of the market, October 5, those in need can pick up items ranging from clothing for children and adults to books and kitchen utensils. Councillor Augustine highlighted the impact of the initiative, saying, “It’s a great way for people to pass on items they no longer need while making a real difference in someone else’s life.”
Residents are encouraged to donate what they can and support this important community event. Councillor Augustine will be on-site during the market to help and meet with locals.
The Moneyless Market provides a meaningful opportunity to come together, reduce landfill, and ensure that resources are put to good use by those who need them most.
