New Goodna Park Revitalizes Community Spirit

Ipswich residents are thrilled with the recent reopening of the R.J. Richardson Park in Goodna, now commonly referred to as the New Goodna Park, which has undergone significant revitalization. The park, which was severely affected by floods, has been completely rebuilt and is now open for families to enjoy.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding shared the exciting news during a recent broadcast on West Bremer Radio. “The R.J. Richardson Park in Goodna was obviously revamped after being flooded. It’s been completely rebuilt and now features a huge paddle steamboat structure for kids to play on, an indigenous canoe moored on a rocky riverbed, a Flying Fox, fitness equipment, and more barbecues and seating,” she said. The park, located next to the Goodna District Rugby League Club, has become a new centerpiece for the community.

The redevelopment of R.J. Richardson Park was made possible through funding from the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program in association with the Ipswich City Council. “I want to thank the state government for their contribution. It’s great to see such support for our community spaces,” Mayor Harding added.

The revitalization of New Goodna Park has been met with enthusiasm from local residents. Families are encouraged to visit the park, bring their picnic blankets, and make a day of it. The new features are designed to cater to a wide range of ages and interests, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to the reopening of New Goodna Park, Mayor Harding highlighted several other community events and initiatives. The National Tree Planting Day is scheduled for this Saturday, with activities planned at both Tight Family Park in Bundamba and Cribb Park. The Ipswich Hospital Foundation’s Park to Park run is also taking place this Sunday, marking its 20th anniversary as a major fundraiser for the foundation.

These developments and events reflect Ipswich’s commitment to enhancing community life and providing spaces and activities that promote health, engagement, and cultural celebration. The reopening of New Goodna Park stands as a testament to the city’s resilience and dedication to creating vibrant, inclusive public spaces.
