Nominations are now open for the 2026 Ipswich and West Moreton Child Protection Week Awards, recognising the outstanding individuals, organisations and community groups working to protect and support children across the region.
Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Sergeant Nadine Webster from the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit said this year’s National Child Protection Week, running from 6 to 12 September, carries the theme “Every Conversation Matters – Shifting Conversation to Action.”
“The theme highlights the importance of turning meaningful conversations into meaningful action, creating safer environments and stronger support systems for children and families,” Sgt Webster said.
The local awards, now in their 15th year, were established by the Ipswich District Child Protection Committee, which Sgt Webster has chaired since its inception.
“The awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding work being done in our communities to support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people,” she said.
Nominations are open until 5pm on Friday, 7 August, with members of the community encouraged to nominate individuals, programs or projects making a positive difference in child protection across the Ipswich and West Moreton region.
Award winners will be announced at the Ipswich and West Moreton Child Protection Week Gala Dinner on Friday, 11 September at the Frank McGreevy Function Centre in Goodna.
This year’s gala will feature Bruce and Denise Morcombe as guest speakers, recognising their long-standing advocacy for child safety through the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
“They have really put action where it needs to be in the child protection space,” Sgt Webster said.
“We can’t thank them enough or acknowledge their bravery and what they have done over many years for the protection of young people, not only across our community, but across Queensland and nationally.”
Community members can nominate deserving individuals or organisations by visiting ICYS.org.au and following the Child Protection Week Awards links.
Tickets for the gala dinner are available through TryBooking by searching for the Ipswich Child Protection Week Gala Awards Dinner.
