Ipswich is set to benefit from a new permanent police presence at Town Square Redbank Plains, responding to strong community calls for increased security. This development follows the tragic murder of a local resident, prompting Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding to advocate for heightened safety measures.

In a recent interview, Mayor Harding highlighted the community’s concerns and the council’s proactive steps. “The community has been asking for the establishment of a permanent police presence at Town Square. We pushed for this following the tragic incident earlier this year,” she said. The Queensland Government has responded by committing to 40 extra police officers and 10 new police cars for Ipswich over the next two years.

Mayor Harding also discussed the ongoing revitalization of Ipswich Central, focusing on enhancing Darcy Doyle Place as part of the city’s Cultural Heart project. “We are seeking community feedback on a preliminary concept design to renew Darcy Doyle Place. This project aims to improve access and connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists, and those using wheelchairs or prams,” she stated. The council is keen to gather input until the consultation closes on 21 August.

The interview also touched on the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with excitement building as Ipswich prepares to host events like the modern pentathlon at Brighton Homes Arena. Mayor Harding emphasized the city’s role and the importance of embracing the upcoming international event.

Additionally, the Western Resource Recovery Centre is progressing, with the council narrowing down potential sites. Public consultation sessions are scheduled, allowing residents to provide feedback on this critical project.

As Ipswich embraces these developments, the Mayor encourages residents to stay engaged and participate in shaping the future of their community. The permanent police presence at Town Square Redbank Plains stands as a significant step towards ensuring a safer environment for all.
