In a recent interview, Ipswich West MP Darren Zanow addressed major legislative changes ahead of the upcoming election, focusing on public health and safety issues. One of the key topics was the new vaping laws currently being debated in Parliament. Zanow confirmed that the laws are set to crack down on illegal vaping products, particularly those affecting younger people.

“Vaping has become a dangerous habit, especially for children. These laws will target shops selling illicit products, with the aim of protecting our youth,” Zanow said. He noted that statistics show teenagers who begin vaping are more likely to transition to smoking later on.

In addition to health concerns, Zanow highlighted the LNP’s focus on tackling youth crime, which remains a significant issue in the Ipswich region. He announced that the LNP is preparing to introduce a comprehensive rewrite of the Youth Justice Act. If elected, Zanow assured voters that changes would be implemented within the first 100 days of forming government. “People deserve to feel safe in their homes and communities, and our approach will focus on guiding young people before they get into serious trouble.”

The MP also touched on child safety laws, another critical concern. With amendments to the Working with Children Act and blue card regulations being debated, Zanow emphasised the importance of making communities safer for children.

With the election fast approaching, Zanow urged Ipswich voters to consider the LNP’s platform, stressing that Ipswich needs more state and federal support. “It’s time for change,” Zanow concluded. “Together, we can get Ipswich the fair share it deserves.”
