Limelight Cinemas has officially kicked off the biggest movie season of the year, with an avalanche of major releases set to fill theatres from now until well after Christmas. Speaking on the Limelight Cinemas Podcast, host DJ Sparky and cinema spokesperson Lex declared the next two months “the be all and end all for movie lovers.”
After temporarily losing her voice, Lex returned just in time for one of the studio’s most anticipated premieres of 2025 — Wicked: For Good, the dramatic and emotional second chapter of the two-part musical epic.
“The first film was a phenomenon,” she said. “People saw it multiple times, took their mum, their sister, their friends… This second part is darker, deeper and absolutely massive.”
Tonight’s Girls’ Night Out advance screening is already near capacity, with fans expected to pack the cinema in green and pink. Limelight is urging anyone hoping to see the film in Gold Class to book ahead due to heavy demand.
But Wicked is just the beginning. Next week brings Zootopia 2, followed by the unexpected November release of Five Nights at Freddy’s, and — the giant of the holiday period — Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Lex confirmed that Avatar tickets went on sale just 30 minutes before recording, calling James Cameron’s latest 3D opus “a must-see on the biggest screen you can find.”
“Every time Cameron releases an Avatar film in 3D, it gets better,” she said. “This is the one you want to experience. It’s going to be the most epic film of the Christmas season.”
The Boxing Day slate is also locked in, featuring The Housemaid with Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, The Condor starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black, and a brand-new SpongeBob movie. January will launch with Samsung Blue, led by Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman, and the Brisbane-made family film The Pout Pout Fish.
With romance, action, animation, thrillers and blockbusters packed into every week, Lex says cinemas will be buzzing until at least February.
