Ipswich was buzzing with excitement as CMC Rocks 2024 drew thousands of music fans from across Australia and beyond, delivering a major economic boost to the region. Ipswich City Councillor David Martin highlighted the festival’s massive impact, with visitors from Port Hedland, Darwin, Melbourne, and even New Zealand attending the country music extravaganza.

“This event gets bigger every year, and it’s incredible to see people from all over the country choosing Ipswich as their destination,” Councillor Martin said. “It’s a huge win for our local economy.”

With CMC Rocks locked in until 2026, Ipswich can expect continued growth from the annual festival.

Ipswich Athletes Breaking Records

Meanwhile, Ipswich’s sporting scene is on fire, with young athletes making national and international headlines. Among them is Gout Gout, a 17-year-old sprinting sensation who clocked 20.05 seconds in the 200m—making him the fastest Australian ever at his age. He later backed it up with a wind-assisted 19.98, breaking a record set in 1968.

His coach believes it’s only a matter of time before he smashes the 100m 10-second barrier, placing him among the world’s elite sprinters.

Despite this immense talent, Ipswich missed out on a share of the $7.1 billion Olympic investment, leaving local leaders disappointed that no Brisbane 2032 events will be hosted in the city.

“We have world-class athletes, but no Olympic infrastructure investment. It’s a real shame,” Martin said. “Hopefully, there’s still time to change that.”

NRL Dreams & Jets’ Big Win

Ipswich’s NRL hopefuls are also making waves, with Nathan Fram (Titans) and Will Sullivan (Newcastle Knights) recently signing professional contracts. Meanwhile, local star Blake Lenahan captained the Ipswich Jets to a 34-20 victory over the Brisbane Tigers in the opening round of the Queensland Cup.

With Ipswich producing so much talent, Councillor Martin hopes the city will one day host its own NRL team, allowing local stars to shine on home turf.

“I’d love to see these guys play for an Ipswich NRL club. Our city deserves it,” he said.

With CMC Rocks, record-breaking athletes, and a thriving rugby league scene, Ipswich continues to prove why it’s one of Queensland’s rising powerhouses in both sport and entertainment.
