It is time for us to have a little look at what’s been happening in your division and we’re going to division three and Councillor Marnie Doyle. Good morning. Good morning guys. Yeah good to chat to you and we haven’t actually chatted since the election So you’ve been extremely busy. What with the the redevelopment in the CBD and that haven’t you? Yeah, absolutely Hit the ground running post-election, you know, the office was still busy during the election period residents

across Division 3 are very active. So yeah, things just kept moving and straight back into it. Exactly. Doing good work. Yeah. Well, look, it’s good to see also that the Ipswich Art Gallery has reopened after getting all of the LED lighting installed. And it’s open with this new exhibition. Yeah, it’s great. So Ipswich-based artist, Kirralee Robinson, has a new art exhibition called Elsewhere, which is running through.
00:55
the 4th of August and it’s free and you don’t have to book. There’s an opening event on the 1st of June, head to the Pitch Art Gallery website for all of the details. Fantastic and Kirralee’s work features a series of minimalist and futuristic sculptures that have been crafted from industrial materials. Would you be a sight to see? Yeah absolutely, a world where discarded objects are transformed into art.
01:22
challenging you know disposability and celebrating curiosity and I love those types of exhibitions and seeing you know that really subjective interpretation that the artists bring to life. And of course if people haven’t gone along to the Ipswich Art Gallery why not because there is always something wonderful to see and some innovative exhibitions on display.
01:45
Yeah, absolutely head to the Ipswich Art Gallery website. The program is regularly updated and there’s lots of really exciting programming coming through particularly with school holidays just around the corner. Yes and of course lots for the kids to do there at the gallery as well. So check it all out at the Ipswich Art Gallery and of course you can go along and see that each and every day and largely it’s free. Now Keith Pennell, Plark, this is the council.
02:12
who has unveiled a new plant to recognise this well-known World War II vet. Yeah, really excited to see this project to fruition. Keith Pannell was one of our World War II veterans and a long-standing member of the Bundamba ANZAC Observance Committee. And so former councillor Andrew Fechner and I worked closely with the Observance Committee, including Keith, and everyone was very sad when Keith passed. So one of our…

ideas for our provisional projects councils get monies to spend so we come about the plaque idea so it was great to see that unveiled finally. Yeah and of course Mr. Pennell spent three years in active service during World War Two in the Pacific and served in Japan following the atomic bombing so he was right in the thick of things wasn’t he? He was and he was Ipswich citizen of the year in 2008.
03:06
deeply respected within the community and miss following his death in 2022. So he was a life member of the Ipswich RSL sub branch and like I said a very active committee member with the Binsambar Observance Committee, Brad Strong, who heads up that committee, brought the bugle along for the unveiling ceremony for the plaque and it was a very moving little ceremony and it was lovely. Residents actually came out from their homes that surround the park.
03:34
stood in their driveway as Brad paid the last post. It was just beautiful. Well that is great. Go and check it out. The new plaque is in the North Booval Park there and it is great to see that come to fruition after the hard work that you and former Councillor Andrew Fechner put into getting that as a reality. Something else we’ve got to celebrate too is the Queen’s Park Environmental
04:03
I know, first opened its doors in 2009, doesn’t seem that long ago, but to celebrate the milestone of welcoming the community to come and celebrate the birthday with us on Wednesday the 5th of June, which is also World Environment Day. Of course, and it’s also State of Origin Day too.
04:22
Well, I did not know that, but thank you for the heads up. There you go. You can go along and celebrate the Environmental Education Centre, then go off and watch the game as well. You can. And, you know, we’re really, really proud of the Queen’s Park Environmental Education Centre. In the past 12 months, we’ve had over 21,000 visitors come through and the programming offerings at the Education Centre are constantly refreshed. And, yeah, it’s a really great…

place to visit for families. It certainly is and of course they have a lot of school excursions that go to the centre now as well including a guided tour of the nearby Ipswich Nature Centre which has been doing good business too so those excursions offered three days a week and are very popular with school groups and that so people need to register to go along and
05:13
be a part of the 15th birthday celebrations don’t they? Yeah I invite everyone to jump on Council’s website and register their interest because it is an enormous achievement wonderful milestone for Ipswich. It certainly is. Hey listen great to chat to you today to update us on some of the things happening in Div 3.
