Ipswich’s community spirit was on full display as the city’s outstanding contributors were recognised at the 2026 Ipswich Australia Day Awards, announced this week by Mayor Teresa Harding.

Mayor Harding congratulated the award recipients, praising their dedication and impact across sport, community service, culture and youth leadership.

“Each of these recipients has made a lasting difference in Ipswich,” Mayor Harding said. “Their commitment strengthens the heart of our community and inspires others to give back.”

The city’s highest honour, Citizen of the Year, was awarded to Ali Brigginshaw, recognising her extraordinary contribution to rugby league and her advocacy for women and girls in sport. A four-time NRLW premiership winner and 2020 Dally M Medallist, Brigginshaw has captained Queensland and Australia to State of Origin and World Cup victories, while also mentoring students in Ipswich schools.

The Senior Citizen of the Year award went to Elizabeth Gough, who has volunteered with Lifeline Queensland for 40 years, providing crisis support and mentoring new volunteers.

Young Citizen of the Year was awarded to Harrison Rule, a dedicated young leader involved in charity cycling, homelessness support, Meals on Wheels, youth parliament and mental health advocacy.

A Cultural Award (Posthumous) was presented to Aunty Vera Short, honouring her lifelong contribution to community wellbeing as a respected First Nations elder and founder of the Leichhardt-One Mile Community Centre.

The Sport and Recreation Award was received by CJ Mulvogue, recognised for her leadership in growing girls’ and women’s AFL and promoting multicultural participation at Collingwood Park Power AFC.

Community Group of the Year was awarded to Springfield Mo-Men, which has raised more than $500,000 for men’s health initiatives while building strong community partnerships across Ipswich.

Mayor Harding said the awards were a powerful reminder of the people and groups who quietly and consistently make Ipswich a better place.

“These award winners reflect the generosity, leadership and resilience that define our city,” she said.
