State Member for Jordan Charis Mullen MP is calling on Springfield commuters to share their views on future parking options at Springfield Station, as rising patronage continues to put pressure on existing facilities.
The station has experienced a significant increase in usage following the introduction of Labor’s 50-cent fares, with more residents choosing public transport for work, school and appointments. While the surge highlights strong public transport uptake, it has also made finding a parking space increasingly difficult.
Ms Mullen said she regularly hears from locals who are arriving earlier each day in an effort to secure a spot.
“Springfield is one of the fastest-growing communities in the region, and it’s vital that our transport planning keeps pace with how people are actually using the network,” she said.
She also raised concerns about reports of more parking fines being issued in nearby streets, including Nev Smith Drive, as commuters search for alternative places to leave their cars.
“Many people are simply trying to park safely and get to work or study on time,” Ms Mullen said. “We need practical solutions, not added financial stress for local families.”
To help shape future planning, Ms Mullen has launched a community survey inviting feedback on possible ways to increase parking capacity at Springfield Station, as well as new ideas from residents.
She said the responses would support ongoing discussions with the State Government, Ipswich City Council and Queensland Rail.
“The voices of local commuters need to be front and centre in this conversation,” she said. “This feedback will help strengthen the case for a long-term solution.”
