In this week’s Crime Watch segment on West Bremer Radio, Senior Constable Karen Sheedy joins us to discuss the importance of road safety as children return to school after their holidays. With increased pedestrian and traffic activity around schools, Constable Sheedy emphasizes the need for motorists to slow down and be vigilant.
School zones are actively enforced in Ipswich, with standard operating times from 7am to 9am and 2pm to 4pm. Some schools maintain a 40km/h speed limit throughout the entire day from 7am to 4pm. Drivers are reminded to be mindful of parking limits, yellow edge lines, no parking or stopping zones, loading zones, and school crossings to ensure children’s safety.
Police will continue monitoring road safety activities, especially during the busy pickup and drop-off times. Constable Sheedy advises drivers to avoid distractions and adhere to the 40km/h speed limit in school zones. For more information on back-to-school road safety, visit the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.
If you have any information for the police, contact PoliceLink at 13 14 44 or provide information online using the suspicious activity form. Crime information can also be reported anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or online.
The key message is clear: slow down around schools, observe parking limits and school crossings, and ensure the safety of our children as they head back to school. Tune in next week for more updates on Crime Watch.
