Ipswich Division 4 Councillor Jim Madden joined West Bremer Radio to discuss the upcoming by-election, major community projects, and exciting events in the area.

With the Division 4 by-election set for October 8, following the resignation of former Councillor David Cullen due to health reasons, Madden expressed his gratitude for working alongside Cullen and his eagerness to share the workload with the new councillor. The election is expected to be a significant event for the division.

Madden also celebrated the official opening of the new $4.4 million Rosewood Police Station, which will serve the rapidly growing population in the western corridor of Ipswich. The station, which honors the history of the original 1878 station by preserving the stables, currently has eight officers, with plans to expand staffing to meet future needs.

Looking ahead, Ipswich will host two significant events: the 25th anniversary of the Tivoli Drive-In and the Netball State Championships at Limestone Park. Madden shared his excitement for these events, noting that the Tivoli Drive-In celebration will attract around 5,000 attendees, while the netball championships are expected to bring over 2,200 participants, boosting the local economy.

In line with Ipswich’s environmental goals, the city will launch Sustainable Ipswich events in October and November, featuring workshops on cycling, visible mending, and a CleanCo gas-fired power station tour. Madden, as chair of the Environment Sustainability Committee, encouraged residents to get involved in these initiatives.

Finally, Madden invited the community to experience the dinosaur display at Tulmur Place, featuring 26 life-sized species and other prehistoric creatures. The exhibition, set to close on September 29, has been a hit with both children and adults.

Ipswich residents can look forward to a busy and event-filled season as the city continues to grow and celebrate its community.
