Motorists in Springfield and Ipswich are breathing a sigh of relief this week as the Exit 33 on-ramp officially reopens after five months of closure.

State Member for Jordan, Charis Mullen, said the Department of Transport and Main Roads initially advised the ramp would stay closed until October, but she pushed for an earlier reopening.

“It was just far too long for our community to wait,” Ms Mullen said. “I wrote to the Minister to stress the urgency, and I’m pleased works were fast-tracked so it could reopen much sooner.”

During the closure, traffic was diverted via Exit 31, creating heavy congestion and highlighting the need for major upgrades along the Centenary Highway. Mullen said planning is already underway to future-proof the corridor from Darra to Yamanto, including lane duplications, interchange upgrades, and active travel links.

August also marks Queensland Multicultural Month, with Jordan hosting a calendar of cultural events and celebrations.

“Jordan is one of the most diverse electorates in the state,” Ms Mullen said. “This month is a wonderful opportunity to embrace the rich culture, food, music, and performances that make our region vibrant.”
Residents can access the full list of events via the Queensland Multicultural Month Calendar online.

Another major community highlight will be the return of the Jordan Baby Welcome Ceremony on Sunday, 14 September. Often described as a “citizenship ceremony for babies,” the event celebrates newborns up to 18 months old with goodie bags, entertainment, and information stalls.

“Jordan is one of the youngest electorates in Queensland,” Ms Mullen said. “This event helps connect new parents with community services and each other—it’s about knowing you’re not alone in your parenting journey.”

Registrations for the free event will open soon on Ms Mullen’s Facebook page.
