Ipswich residents can celebrate Australia Day while keeping cool, with free entry to all Ipswich City Council-owned swim centres on Sunday, January 26, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Community and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said the long-standing tradition, dating back to 1997, continues to be a highlight of the summer season.

“Spending Australia Day at the pool is a fantastic way to enjoy the long weekend with family and friends while staying active and beating the heat,” Cr Madsen said.

“Our city’s pools are some of the best places to cool off during the hot summer months, and free entry has always been a popular initiative among residents.”

Cr Madsen reminded visitors to be sun-safe while enjoying the facilities, urging everyone to “slip, slop, and slap” when outdoors.

In addition to the pools, Ipswich offers several free water parks for residents to enjoy year-round, including Orion Lagoon, Robelle Domain, Bob Gamble Park, Ripley Splash ‘n’ Play, Tulmur Place, and White Rock Splash Pad.

The following Ipswich City Council-owned swim centres will offer free entry on Australia Day:

  • Bundamba Swim Centre
  • Goodna Aquatic Centre
  • Rosewood Aquatic Centre
  • Georgie Conway Leichhardt Community Swim Centre

For a fun and refreshing Australia Day, residents are encouraged to make the most of these free swimming opportunities and explore other local water attractions.
