Ipswich-born Georgia Toft has officially announced her candidacy for the seat of Ipswich West in the upcoming Queensland state election, vowing to fight for the future of her hometown and push for long-overdue changes.
Toft, who attended West Moreton Anglican College, is deeply rooted in the Ipswich community, serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Norths Tigers Juniors Rugby League, a member of the Rotary Club of Ipswich City, and a board member of the Ipswich Show Society.
“I put my hand up to serve our community because I was sick and tired of Ipswich not getting its fair share,” Toft said. “Ipswich has so much potential, and the possibility of Ipswich’s future excites me. But we have been taken for granted and neglected by Labor for far too long.”
Toft highlighted critical areas where she believes Ipswich has been overlooked, particularly in infrastructure and public services. “For years, we have been overlooked for critical road funding, causing safety issues and congestion. Our public transport system is second rate at best,” she explained. “We need greater investment into our local sporting clubs and more support from the state government to drive community development opportunities.”
She also raised concerns about the state of healthcare and public safety in the area. “Ipswich Hospital has some of the worst ramping in Australia, and youth crime is out of control in parts of the electorate. This must change, and I’m fighting for that change.”
Growing up on Bremervale Arabian Stud, a local family business, Toft learned the values of hard work and community. “The farm was a small family business where I was taught the value of hard work, the importance of family, and making every dollar count. I was taught if you want something done, you need to go and do it yourself – don’t wait for someone else.”
With the state election less than 45 days away, Toft is calling on the people of Ipswich West to vote for change. “In less than 45 days, Queenslanders can vote for change. And in less than 45 days, Ipswich West locals can vote for someone who is passionate, committed, and determined to build a better future for our community,” she concluded.
Toft’s campaign is set to focus on infrastructure, healthcare, public safety, and youth development, with a strong emphasis on ensuring Ipswich receives the attention and investment it deserves.
