As the holiday season looms closer, the Ipswich Hospital Foundation (IHF) is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated Christmas Appeal under the banner “Brightening Lives this Christmas.” The foundation is rallying the community to join hands and create a significant impact on the lives of local patients during this festive period.
In a touching plea, IHF’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Scott Young, expressed his elation at the forthcoming appeal. He emphasized the pressing need, acknowledging numerous families within their community undergoing health crises. Young shared a poignant story, highlighting the ordeal of Natalie, a courageous individual faced with a life-threatening situation during her pregnancy at only 24 weeks.
Natalie’s journey epitomizes the foundation’s dedication to supporting West Moreton Health in delivering care as close to home as possible. When complications arose, a scan at Ipswich Hospital necessitated Natalie’s urgent transfer, 100 kilometers away, for an emergency caesarean. The odds were grim for both Natalie and her baby.
Her baby, weighing a mere 740 grams, required immediate critical care in the neonatal intensive care unit. Natalie, recovering physically and emotionally drained, endured a daily 200-kilometer trek to be with her fragile baby, Amelia, who fought for life in the intensive care unit.
Four arduous months later, a glimmer of hope emerged as Baby Amelia was finally transferred a mere 5 kilometers away from home, receiving specialized care at Ipswich Hospital’s special care nursery. After four more weeks of dedicated care, Amelia was able to go home with her mother.
Today, Amelia is a vibrant seven-year-old, thriving and cherishing her life. She embodies resilience and joy, attending school and winning hearts with her infectious charm.
Natalie and Amelia, propelled by gratitude and a deep desire to support families facing similar challenges, have been steadfast participants in the IHF’s annual Park2Park fun run, consistently raising funds for those in need.
Young fervently appealed to the community to contribute locally, urging them to make compassionate donations to brighten the lives of local patients. He emphasized the profound impact of every contribution, regardless of its size, in bolstering the care provided by West Moreton Health.
Amidst the challenges of the past year, Young called upon the community, emphasizing that their support would fortify compassion and resilience in the community through essential healthcare.
“This Christmas, together, we can make a meaningful difference. Your generosity will illuminate the lives of individuals and families in need within your community,” Young expressed with hope and gratitude.
