Renowned Ipswich artist, LeAnne Vincent, who once founded “The Switch” gallery in 2010, is making waves once again with her latest installation, “Something Blue,” currently on display at the Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery. Known for her innovative use of cyanotype photography, the artist has combined her love of birds and still life with a contemporary commentary on online dating
The “Something Blue” installation, inspired by the Satin Bowerbird’s mating ritual of collecting blue objects, showcases the artist’s fascination with how objects reflect identity. For this project, she created a human version of the bird’s bower, filled with cyanotype blueprints. The installation includes a video of objects photographed using the cyanotype process, linking the bird’s behavior to people’s presentation of themselves in the age of online dating.
“When I visit my parents, I always check on the Satin Bowerbird’s nest in their yard,” LeAnne shared. “This sparked the idea of linking the bird’s use of objects to the way we use symbols to represent ourselves on social media and dating platforms.”
In addition to the exhibition, LeAnne will be hosting cyanotype workshops on October 19th and 20th at the Ipswich Art Workshop. The first workshop offers an introduction to cyanotypes, teaching participants the 1800s blueprinting technique. A second, more advanced session will dive deeper into digital negatives and UV light exposure techniques.
Those interested can book through her website starting Thursday. With a successful career spanning over a decade, this project represents yet another creative achievement for the Ipswich-based artist.
“Something Blue” is open for viewing at the Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery, and the workshops offer a rare chance to learn from one of Ipswich’s finest artists.
