In a recent council update on the Breakky Club, Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli discussed the endorsement and adoption of the 2024-25 budget, emphasizing its importance in navigating the current cost of living challenges. With Ipswich being one of the fastest-growing regions in Queensland, the $663 million budget aims to ensure sustainable growth while addressing immediate needs. Key highlights include a 5.45% rate rise, equating to approximately $2.50 per week for households, and a significant $203 million allocation towards the city’s Capital Works program, which will expand to $528 million over three years.
Division 3 will see considerable investments, including major upgrades to Limestone Park, $600,000 for lighting at the Queens Park Tennis Centre, and $4 million for drainage rehabilitation in East Ipswich. The Australian Government’s Black Spot program will fund road safety improvements at the intersection of Robertson and White Hill Road in Eastern Heights.
Antoniolli also discussed minimal increases in utility charges and dog registration fees, highlighting the council’s effort to balance budget needs with minimizing resident impact. He stressed that the budget is part of a comprehensive annual plan requiring ongoing monitoring and adjustments.
Additionally, a key section of Redbank Plains Road will be closed this weekend for construction, a move that will save four weeks of work and $258,000. The closure, scheduled from 7 PM tonight to 5 AM Monday, aims to minimize disruption by coinciding with school holidays and the weekend.
