Ipswich residents have reason to celebrate as the city continues to address critical issues and provide exciting opportunities for the community. Here’s a roundup of the latest updates:

Waste Odour Inquiry Offers Hope for Residents

A long-awaited health inquiry into persistent waste odours in the Swanbank and New Chum areas is finally underway, following unanimous calls from Ipswich City Council two years ago.

Residents have reported various health concerns, including rashes, migraines, and respiratory issues, believed to be linked to the odours. Mayor Theresa Harding encouraged affected residents to document their experiences, consult GPs, and prepare for upcoming public consultation sessions.

The inquiry’s terms focus on Swanbank and New Chum, but residents in other impacted areas, like Tivoli, are urged to participate and share their concerns.

Major Roadworks Progress in Springfield

The Springfield Parkway and Greenbank Arterial upgrades continue to enhance connectivity and safety in the rapidly growing area.

Night works from January 28 to 31 will focus on a pedestrian footpath at Eden Station Drive. Mayor Harding urged patience as these projects near completion, with road widening and duplication promising long-term benefits for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Celebrating Ipswich’s Community Spirit

The 2025 Ipswich Australia Day Awards Ceremony will take place on January 22, celebrating 14 individuals and four community groups nominated for their outstanding contributions.

Additionally, expressions of interest are open for Galvanized, Ipswich’s heritage festival running from September 5 to 14. Community groups, artisans, and historical enthusiasts are encouraged to join and share Ipswich’s rich history.

Spotlight on Federal Election Promises

Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton visited Ipswich last week to announce Carl Mutzelburg as the LNP candidate for Blair and discuss NBN upgrades. Mayor Harding expressed optimism about securing funding for highways, bridges, and other critical infrastructure as election season approaches.

With significant developments in health, infrastructure, and community engagement, Ipswich continues to grow and thrive. Stay tuned for updates and participate in the many opportunities to shape the city’s future.
