Last weekend’s weather posed challenges, but Ipswich Cricket pushed through, with many matches successfully played despite late-afternoon showers. Simon Emerson from Ipswich Cricket provided a detailed wrap-up of the results and upcoming games.
First and Second Grade Wrap
The First Grade men faced a tough toss and couldn’t post the desired total against a strong university side. Although Sunday’s play was washed out, standout performances from bowlers Neeluda and Nara Emerson kept Ipswich competitive, both securing spots among the top five wicket-takers in the competition.
Second Grade also battled hard but fell short against experienced university players. With a squad heavily reliant on under-18 talent, the young team is gaining valuable experience. Highlights included Jack Hillier’s impressive unbeaten half-century in the second innings.
Grand Finals and Youth Performances
The BMC boys played their Grand Final after an eight-week gap but were narrowly defeated. Despite the loss, the team’s journey to their first BMC Grand Final remains a significant achievement, especially given the challenges of maintaining momentum during school holidays.
The under-19s had a close T20 game against Gold Coast on Friday, narrowly losing but showing promising signs for their doubleheader on Sunday against Souths and university.
Paul Pink Shield and Women’s Cricket
The Pink Shield under-16 girls competed at Ivan Marsden Oval, gaining valuable experience against Gold Coast and Norths. Another match is scheduled for Friday, providing young players further opportunities to develop under the mentorship of Trinity Doyle, a Queensland U19 representative.
Meanwhile, the women’s team looks forward to returning to Baxter Oval this Sunday after multiple rain-affected weekends.
What’s Next?
With First and Second Grade taking a break for Australia Day weekend, attention shifts to the under-19s, women’s cricket, and Pink Shield action. Emerson remains optimistic about the teams’ progress, emphasizing growth and development across all grades.
Stay tuned for next week’s updates on Ipswich Cricket.
