Division 1 Councillor Jacob Madsen provided an update on recent Ipswich events and ongoing council projects during an interview on West Bremer Radio’s Brekkie Club. Cr Madsen highlighted the success of the first week of the Galvanized Festival, which attracted thousands of attendees. Notable events included the Limestone Folic, where participants learned heritage dances, and a special event at Ipswich Art Gallery. The Indigenous Wild Foods and Cultural Festival also drew large crowds.

Madsen shared details of the festival’s upcoming activities, including the Ipswich City Walks, history tours at Summerland Camels. He also mentioned a historical brewing tour of Ipswich pubs, offering adults a fun and educational experience.

Switching focus to infrastructure, Madsen reported that two major roadworks projects in Division 1 are nearing key milestones. The Redbank Plains Road upgrade remains on track for completion by the end of the year, while the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Mary Street and William Street has now been completed. Madsen, who has been a vocal advocate for the project, expressed his satisfaction, noting the importance of easing traffic flow in a growing area.

Looking ahead to summer, Madsen urged residents to prioritize water safety as temperatures rise. Ipswich City Council is offering free water safety programs for both children and adults, including pool and spa compliance checks, CPR training, and fencing guidance.

Finally, Madsen addressed the recent resignation of Division 4 Councillor Dave Cullen, which has divided the community. The council has resolved to request a by-election to allow voters to choose Cullen’s successor, ensuring proper representation moving forward.
