Ipswich Breaks Economic Records, Launches Major Community and Infrastructure Projects

IPSWICH, QLD — Ipswich’s economy has hit an all-time high, surging past the $15 billion mark in gross regional product (GRP), defying national and state economic trends and cementing its status as one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions.

Speaking to West Bremer Radio, Mayor Teresa Harding revealed that Ipswich’s GRP climbed to $15.08 billion, a 4.2% increase from the previous year. That growth rate outpaces not only the Queensland average of 2.9% but also key regional neighbours including Moreton Bay, Logan, the Gold Coast and Townsville.

“We’re punching well above our weight,” Mayor Harding said. “Our economy is growing faster than almost every comparable city in the state.”

🔨 Jobs and Infrastructure Drive the Surge

With population growth doubling over the next 20 years, the council has set an ambitious jobs target of 95,000 by 2027 as part of its Economic Development Strategy. Over the past year, 500 new jobs have already been created.

Key developments include a $15 million refurbishment of the Riverview Resource Recovery Centre, and community initiatives such as the Healthy and Active Program, which engaged nearly 30,000 residents in low-cost fitness and wellness activities last year.

“We’re seeing improvements in both physical and mental health through this program,” Harding said, noting 79% of participants reported improved fitness and 64% felt mentally better.

🛠️ Tip Maintenance and Patience Requested

The Riverview Resource Recovery Centre will undergo essential maintenance from June 16 to late August, reducing its capacity temporarily. Residents are encouraged to visit the Rosewood facility during this time or delay large disposals.

“The work will extend the centre’s life by 20 years,” Mayor Harding said. “We thank residents in advance for their patience.”

🌟 Local Legend Honoured

Mayor Harding also congratulated Martin Shaw, chair of Wounded Heroes, who was honoured with a Queensland Day Local Legend Award for his work supporting veterans in crisis.

“Martin and his team are there for our veterans in their most difficult moments, providing real-time, on-the-spot support,” Harding said.

🚗 Events Keep Rolling in Ipswich

Despite the winter chill, the city is alive with activity, including recent hits like the Muscle in Maculata car show and Winternationals drag racing. With the Ipswich Cup just around the corner, residents can expect more colour, horsepower and community spirit.

“It’s a great time to be in Ipswich,” Harding said. “There’s something happening every weekend—and we’re only getting started.”
