Ipswich is gearing up for an action-packed week with the return of the Supercars to Queensland Raceway — and residents will get a rare chance to meet all 26 drivers at a free event in the Nicholas Street Precinct this Thursday.
From 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, fans can meet stars including local favourite Will Brown and young gun Brock Feeney, while enjoying live music, food trucks, a super kids’ zone, and prize giveaways. Mayor Teresa Harding says the community meet-and-greet is the first since 2019.
“It’s a unique chance for motorsport fans to see their heroes up close before the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440,” Cr Harding said.
The excitement comes as Ipswich continues its rapid growth, now surpassing 265,000 residents. Ripley remains the fastest-growing suburb, followed by Spring Mountain, Redbank Plains, South Ripley, and White Rock. More than 3,100 new dwellings were added in the past year.
“We remain on track to hit half a million people by 2046,” Cr Harding said. “That’s why we’re pushing for vital infrastructure like the Ripley Road upgrade and the Springfield rail extension.”
One community facility set for a big boost is the Redbank Plaza Library, which will undergo a six-month, $80,000 expansion. The upgrade will include a new internal entry from the plaza, a dedicated children’s space, and extra study areas.
Meanwhile, Ipswich’s community spirit has been on full display. Ipswich Legacy raised funds for veteran families at its annual golf day, with support from the Prince Alfred Hotel. And West Moreton Anglican College won praise for its impressive production of The Addams Family at the Civic Centre.
“This city’s growth is about more than population numbers,” Cr Harding said. “It’s about investing in infrastructure, celebrating community, and making Ipswich a place people are proud to call home.”
