Ipswich residents are moving into recovery mode following the impact of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with community recovery hubs now open to support those affected. Meanwhile, the city is gearing up for the much-anticipated Ipswich Show, and local creatives are celebrating the success of the recent Ipswich Creators Summit.
Community Recovery Hub Opens in Ipswich
Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle has praised the efforts of emergency responders and local volunteers who worked tirelessly to manage the severe weather event. Now, the focus is on assisting those impacted, with a Community Recovery Hub open at 22 Nicholas Street, Ipswich Central, operating daily from 9 AM to 4 PM.
The hub provides support for those experiencing hardship, including assistance with government grants and access to community services. Doyle encouraged residents to visit the hub or contact her office for any additional support.
“We had nine suburbs impacted by flooding, and while we’re grateful it wasn’t worse, it’s been a stressful time for many,” Doyle said.
Ipswich Show Returns in May
As the city recovers, excitement is building for the 152nd Ipswich Show, running from Friday, May 16 (a public holiday) to Sunday, May 18.
“It’s my favorite time of the year,” Doyle said. “The Ipswich Show is an iconic event that continues to evolve while holding a special place in the community’s heart.”
Visitors can expect livestock displays, woodchopping, chainsaw racing, arts and crafts, sideshow alley, and the ever-popular fireworks display each night. West Bremer Radio will be broadcasting live from the Greyhound Pavilion, offering visitors a chance to meet the team.
Creators Summit Celebrates Ipswich’s Artistic Community
The Ipswich Creators Summit, held in early March, was a huge success, with over 200 emerging and established artists attending to network and learn from industry leaders.
“It was an incredible showcase of Ipswich’s thriving creative community,” Doyle said.
With $3.8 million in federal funding secured for upgrades to Ipswich’s cultural venues—including the Civic Centre, Ipswich Art Gallery, Studio 188, and Fire Station 101—the future looks bright for the city’s artists.
Residents are invited to help shape Ipswich’s arts and cultural vision by completing a survey at shapeyouripswich.com.au before Sunday, March 23 or emailing creative.industries@ipswich.qld.gov.au by the end of April.
With recovery efforts well underway and a packed calendar of events, Ipswich continues to prove its resilience and vibrant community spirit.
