Ipswich City Council’s Division 1 councillor Pye Augustine has celebrated a week of major community milestones, including a large citizenship ceremony, school leadership events and initiatives supporting local businesses.

Nearly 300 New Citizens Welcomed

Almost 300 residents officially became Australian citizens at a ceremony this week, marking a significant moment for families across the city.

Cr Augustine described the event as “magnificent”, noting the pride shown by the 295 conferees as they received their certificates and sang the national anthem.

“The smiles on their faces and the pride they show is incredible,” she said. “You can really see how much becoming an Australian citizen means to them.”

Student Leaders Recognised Across Schools

The councillor also attended investiture ceremonies at Ripley Valley Secondary College and Deebing Heights State School, where student leaders were formally recognised for the year ahead.

Cr Augustine praised the confidence of the young leaders, many of whom addressed large audiences during the events.

“It takes courage to stand in front of a crowd at such a young age, and these students showed real leadership,” she said.

Support for Small Business Growth

Local economic development was also highlighted at Ipswich City Council’s New Business Breakfast, where emerging businesses were given networking opportunities and access to support services.

Cr Augustine said small businesses were central to the city’s economy, noting they account for more than 97 per cent of registered Ipswich enterprises. She added that Ipswich’s economy had surpassed an estimated $15 billion in value, underscoring the importance of continued local support and investment.

Family Events and School Holiday Entertainment

Looking ahead, families are being encouraged to attend upcoming school holiday events in the Nicholas Street Precinct, including popular appearances by children’s characters Bluey and Bingo.

Cr Augustine said previous visits by the characters had drawn large crowds and urged families to arrive early to secure a spot.

The councillor encouraged residents to stay engaged with council initiatives and continue supporting local businesses to help drive Ipswich’s ongoing growth.
