Mark Delaney, a long-time Ipswich resident and community advocate, has been announced as the Queensland Greens candidate for Ipswich West in the upcoming state election. Delaney, who has lived in Ipswich for over 25 years with his wife Renai and their three children, is dedicated to tackling the growing cost-of-living crisis and advocating for those struggling in the community.
For the past eight years, Delaney and his wife have volunteered in Queens Park, providing mobile showers and laundry services to those in need. Originally focused on helping the homeless, Delaney now sees a wider range of people seeking assistance, including entire families, veterans, pensioners, and single mothers. “A decade on, with the cost-of-living crisis, we’re seeing more people than ever coming to Queens Park for help,” Delaney said.
Delaney believes the housing crisis and poverty in Queensland are political choices, driven by decades of leadership from major parties that have prioritized corporate profits over people. “Poverty is a political choice. The revolving door of the same major parties in State Parliament, after thirty years of economic prosperity, has created this housing crisis. We need a course correction, and the Greens can make it happen,” Delaney said.
He emphasized that the Greens don’t take donations from large corporations, allowing them to prioritize the needs of everyday people. “The LNP, Labor, and One Nation just aren’t listening to everyday people. Instead, they listen to their corporate donors. We’ve all had a gutful of that,” Delaney said.
Calling for a transformation in Queensland politics, Delaney urged voters to support the Greens in order to bring about fundamental changes in key areas such as housing, healthcare, education, and public transport. “We can have free education and healthcare, we can build public housing and clean energy infrastructure, but we need your help. That’s why I’m running to win and why I’m asking you for your support this October to ‘Swich to Green’ and get involved in our people-powered campaign in Ipswich West.”
The Queensland Greens aim to break the two-party system and secure up to 10 seats in the upcoming election, with Delaney as a key candidate for Ipswich West
