Ipswich City Councillor Pye Augustine says the city is keeping pace with its rapid growth, with millions of dollars earmarked for road upgrades, new health services on the horizon, and continued support for local small businesses.
Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Cr Augustine confirmed the 2025–26 Council Budget includes $1.4 million for gravel road maintenance across Ipswich, with $500,000 allocated specifically to Divisions 1 and 4. Works in Division 1 will include upgrades to Cummings Road and Hendricks Road at Mount Forbes.
“Our population has now surpassed 255,000, and it’s vital we keep our infrastructure up to standard,” Cr Augustine said.
Cr Augustine has also been busy engaging with the business and health sectors. She will emcee the Small Business Breakfast on August 28, part of Council’s efforts to support new businesses. “We know around 70 per cent of small businesses earn less than a full-time wage in their early years, so Council works hard to help them succeed,” she said.
At the Springfield Community Health Summit, hosted by Mater Health, Cr Augustine joined local leaders to discuss the city’s growing healthcare needs. The summit confirmed the new Springfield Public Hospital is on track to open around April 2026, weather permitting, and will be Queensland’s third-largest emergency hospital. Mater hopes the first baby born at the hospital will arrive before Mother’s Day next year.
Cr Augustine also rolled up her sleeves for the Clean Up Ipswich initiative, collecting rubbish around the CBD. “Every little bit helps to keep our city fresh and vibrant,” she said.
And in lighter community news, she joined crowds at the Ipswich Handmade Markets’ Dachshund Day, enjoying the races and festivities. “I’ve never seen so many dachshunds in one place — and watching them run in every direction but straight was hilarious,” she laughed.
Residents can contact Cr Augustine through the Ipswich City Council website or her official Facebook page for updates on local projects and events.
