Saturday’s Group Ones –

Randwick Race 6 Australian Oaks – #2 PAVITRA Second to Prowess in the Vinery who has put in a top Oaks trail and with James McDonald on board and with a career that 11: 3-3-1 she is the one to beat.

Race 7 Sydney Cup – #1 GOLD TRIP Sticking with the Melbourne Cup winner here. Has not looked any chance in last two starts, where I have tipped him, but he performs over the 3200m (Cup distance) and will enjoy the softer ground here. Stay faithful to the Maher & Eustace 6YO.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes – #1 ANAMOE the James Cummings trained runner performs well when fourth up as he is now. His previous 4th-up runs – second in the Golden Slipper, an unlucky second in the ’21 Cox Plate, a 6.5L win in the Rosehill Guineas, and success over I’m Thunderstruck in the ’22 Cox Plate. My bet of the day for mine. On paper it looks like a match race between Anamoe and Dubai Honour, and I’m sticking with Anamoe. His run in the George Ryder was immense and he is looking for this distance now. No knock on Dubai Honour but I have a slight query if the track is a genuine heavy.

Queen of the Turf (fillies and mares WFA) – #1 ALCOHOL FREE comes into the race with form around Baaeed which is incredibly hard to ignore. Won a trial easily but I can’t take the $3.30 on offer given she is first up for 9 months and on Australian debut. If the track stays a Heavy 8-9 then I’ll have to go with Levante dropping back to her own sex. Has won 11 of 13 on soft so if it’s not bottomless she’ll be hard to beat. If the track dries up then Fangirl comes right into the mix as well. Roughie at odds would be Statement who was disappointing first up but a softer track will suit immensely, and she has been competitive with Alcohol Free.
