Mayor Teresa Harding expressed her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting Ipswich’s rapid growth and the increasing demand for sports facilities. “Our population will more than double in the coming decades from our current 256,000 residents to a massive 533,000 residents, primarily driven by young families moving to Ipswich to find an affordable and livable place to call home,” said Mayor Harding. “I am delighted the Ipswich Basketball Association and Ipswich Turf Club have been successful in demonstrating the many benefits of this proposal and securing $15,000 towards a feasibility study for their multi-sport arena.”

Mayor Harding also noted the potential of this proposal to meet the growing demand for indoor sporting facilities, especially in anticipation of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. “As a co-host city for Brisbane 2032, more residents than ever will be looking to participate in grassroots sports across Ipswich. I am eager to see how this proposal will come together through the feasibility process.”

Ipswich Basketball Association President, Ms. Toni Caldwell, emphasized the project’s significance for the community and its sports landscape. “Ipswich does not currently have a facility of this kind, which means we are often overlooked when it comes to state and national championships,” said Ms. Caldwell. She outlined the project’s potential to boost access to top-tier sporting facilities and generate economic opportunities for the region. “Our memberships as well as the popularity of basketball are growing at a rapid rate, so we see this proposal as critical to the future of our sport in
