Tune in to West Bremer Radio to stay updated with the latest from Ipswich City Council. Recently, the mayor emerged from a COVID-induced hiatus, just in time to deliver the 2024-25 budget. Despite a slight 5.45% rate increase, the council is focused on sustainable growth and major infrastructure projects, aiming to provide relief amid rising costs. Notable plans include significant road upgrades and increased pensioner concessions. As one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions, Ipswich is committed to maintaining essential services and adding new facilities. The Ipswich Sport Awards are returning, recognizing outstanding athletes, coaches, and volunteers in the community. Nominations are open until August 11th, with winners announced on November 6th.

A highlight of the upcoming events is Spark Ipswich, the city’s signature arts and culture festival running from July 4th to 14th. This 11-day event features free and low-cost activities for all ages. The festival kicks off with a spectacular light display, projecting artwork from 17 local artists across Ipswich Central buildings. Attendees can enjoy artist talks and music under the stars, with the weekend offering a Teddy Bears Picnic at the Railway Workshops Museum, featuring craft workshops, stage performances, and a bear hunt. The WOMI (World of Music Ipswich) event at Springfield will showcase diverse cultural performances, music workshops, and food stalls.

In other news, recent social media discussions have highlighted the boarding up of the old NAB building and the eviction of the homeless community. The council clarified that homelessness is a state government responsibility, and while they support community service providers, they do not have the resources or authority to manage social housing and outreach. Efforts have been made to assist the affected individuals, but the decision to board up the building was made by the private owner, who plans to renovate the property.
