Stage two of expansion works at Stone Quarry Cemetery in Jeebropilly is nearing completion, delivering a more inclusive and accessible space for the Ipswich community. Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine confirmed this week that new infrastructure, including lawn beams and an Islamic burial section, is being finalised.
“Stage one saw upgraded entry gates, road improvements and additional seating,” Councillor Augustine said. “Now, with stage two almost complete, this expansion reflects our commitment to inclusivity and community needs.”
The expansion follows strong community consultation, with overwhelming support for the improvements. Locals are encouraged to visit and view the completed works soon.
Also highlighted this week was the launch of the latest Ipswich Tourism Guide, showcasing the best attractions across the region. Division 1 features prominently with nature trails such as the White Rock Conservation Area and luxury experiences like Spicers Hidden Vale in Grandchester.
“If you’re seeking adventure, Valhalla Paintball in Calvert is a must-visit,” said Councillor Augustine. “It’s great fun—and maybe we’ll even see a West Bremer Radio vs. Council paintball challenge one day!”
Councillor Augustine also reflected on this year’s Anzac Day commemorations, praising students for their respectful services. She attended ceremonies at Redbank Plains High, Staines Memorial, Fernbrooke, and Ripley Valley Secondary College.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for the Planes, Trains and Autos festival this weekend. Division 1 will be on show with the Grandchester Model Live Steam Trains and the iconic Swanbank Collier heritage railway experience.
“There’s so much happening in Ipswich every weekend,” Augustine added. “Hop on DiscoverIpswich.com.au and start planning your next outing.”
With major developments and events on the horizon, Division 1 continues to buzz with community spirit and family-friendly activities.
