As temperatures soar and Queensland swelters through another blistering summer, Loz from Lozlife joined The Brekkie Club on West Bremer Radio to explain why so many Aussies feel mentally foggy this time of year — and what simple tricks can help clear the haze.
Loz calls it “heatwave headspace”, the fuzzy, sluggish feeling that hits when the mercury climbs and motivation melts “faster than a ZupaDupa.”
“Aussie summer is not cute,” she laughed. “Your clothes stick to you, your sleep disappears, your hair has its own climate system — and suddenly your brain feels like mashed potato. But it’s not a personality flaw. It’s your body overheating.”
According to Loz, when the body becomes too hot, the nervous system becomes stressed and the brain begins conserving energy, reducing focus and productivity by up to 30%.
She shared three practical strategies to help listeners reboot their overheated minds:
1. Cool Your Core
“When your internal temperature rises, the brain diverts energy into cooling you instead of thinking clearly,” Loz said.
Quick fixes include splashing cold water on pulse points, sitting in shade for three minutes, standing in front of a fan “like a happy dog,” or cooling your feet and lower legs.
2. Eat Water-Rich Foods
Hydration isn’t just about drinking water. Loz recommends watermelon, cucumber, berries, citrus, yogurt, leafy greens and frozen fruits like grapes and mango.
“These hydrate you and keep energy steady without the slump from ice cream or sugary drinks,” she said.
3. Use the UCS Strategy
Heavy thinking tasks should be done early in the day, Loz advised, shifting lighter admin-style work into the hotter afternoon hours.
A 10–15 minute “afternoon reset” — lying down briefly, stretching or doing breathing exercises — can dramatically improve mental clarity.
“If the whole of Spain can nap after lunch, you can sit down for ten minutes,” she joked.
For those wanting deeper support with building strong daily habits, Loz invited listeners to join her Mojo Dojo Academy at LozLife.com.
She’ll be back next Tuesday with more practical lifestyle advice — hopefully with cooler temperatures ahead.
